Opis
The site and anticipated program for the development of the Badel block presents an interesting urban design challenge. Any new design or zoning standards must be tailored to minimize shadows, allow for pedestrian transparency and accommodate modern iconic buildings.
Our Urban Design response is directed by the following project priorities:
1. Juxtapose
The design must blend restored historic structures, mid-century strings of row buildings and modern glass skyscrapers.
2. Contemporize
New buildings must incorporate the scale, material and other features demanded of high quality developments across the world.
3. Leading Edge
The design must boldly incorporate “smart” building technologies, energy efficiency, onsite generation and ecological sites.
4. Incremental
Given the intensity of development that this site will have to bear to make it economically viable, it is designed to allow for incremental construction.
Design Principles
The fundamental notion behind the site layout is the opportunity for this redevelopment to strengthen community.
COMMUNITY AND ECOLOGY
The restored site ecology is fully integrated into Juxtaposition. A natural bio-swale with occasional ponds captures and treats run off from roofs and paved areas while clusters of native vegetation create urban habitat for wildlife.
COMMUNITY AND HERITAGE
Juxtaposition offers opportunities for celebrating past heritage such that the region’s heritage is brought to life.
COMMUNITY AND INNOVATION
With flexible office spaces that allow for the new community-driven working models, Juxtapostion can become the innovation center for Zagreb.
COMMUNITY INTERACTION
Creating an open area to promote walking and wellbeing through active or passive spaces; Juxtaposition will allow resident members to socialize and get exercise.
