Opis
Thought of together with the B. Kašića Square, Badel Block is turned into a public, open/green space that perpetuates the structuring role of the Lower Town main squares.
Badel Square is a visual/functional extension of the Market/B. Kašića Square offering a variety of public space’s uses: flower market (close to market), water pool, amphitheaters, open space, artificial hill, pathways, playground (close to school), etc. The buildings also offer public spaces at different heights, directly accessible from the Square itself: viewpoint/open-air gallery balcony and public Sports Club terrace.
To foster pedestrian flows, cars presence has been minimized without compromising the connectivity of the Square within its urban context (several new cross-circulations).
Thought of as standalone pavilions in a Park, the restored industrial buildings define the new urban identity. They are acting on the urban space as they can be used as potential stages/background for shows.
The Distillery’s presence and character (protected building) is increased by a waterpool surrounding it. The building is faithfully renovated to enhance its original structure and to house cultural/educational functions. Its access is re-planned at the Block’s center to force users to experience the whole Square walking through it. Also, this operation creates a sheltered drop-off / Grand Hall. The Gorinca Factory has its street façade restored.
To densify the Northern edge of the Block creates richness of functional relationships and social interchanges due to multifunctionality of the complex.
Pushing the building to the North creates a major South façade towards the sunny public square side (res.+restaurants/cafes). Also ideally oriented for its use, the Northern building houses commercial spaces.
